 “Son, this is where the bottom of the bottom go” that’s what his father had told him when he was a young child as they drove through Skid Row. Little did he realize that decades later he would end up on those very streets. “Terrance” has been homeless for the past 8 years. He is articulate, bright, and genuine. At one time he was making over $100,000 a year as a software engineer, and he was an avid cyclist dreaming of racing in the Tour de France. His world came crashing down when his wife left him for another man and he fell into depression leading to a serious drug addiction. He lost everything. He was brought up in a religious home. However it wasn’t until he lived on the streets did he find a deep faith in God. The turning point came when he spent 45 days in jail for trespassing while looking for recyclables. There he realized that he could survive without the drugs and that it wasn’t too late to turn his life around. Then while scavenging, he found a broken bicycle. It reawakened one of his passions of life. Now he is trying to get the bicycle fixed, and he dreams of getting off the street. He hopes to ride his bicycle across the country someday, and to help homeless people how to use computers to teach them life skills. |
